Tia Maria @ Strawberry Fare Restaurant

Today, an earlier celebration for Liying's and Ben's birthday was held and we went to a restaurant located at 114 Peterborough St, Christchurch. This restaurant as recommended by SiewPing, is indeed a special restaurant which offers a wide range of mouth-watering desserts and great wines plus some nice meals.

The photo below is what choon seng and I ordered. It's called White Chocolate Fantasy - (creamy mousse in a chocolate biscuit tower with poached tamarillos). A great dessert with nice white chocolate contained inside the biscuit tower. The price of this dessert is $15.00 and we share together.

The drink I ordered was a liqueur spirit called Tia Maria. The taste was very similar to a coffee liqueur. I think the ingredients are coffee beans, vanilla and alcohol of course and the alcohol content would be about 20% or more. It's indeed nice. I ordered a double shot only (about 30ml). However, drinking alcohol in this "hot" restaurant was not a good idea but it's great when it's accompanied by the beautifully decorated dessert with chocolate and tamarillos. Red Tamarillo is so special that it is a traditional Kiwi food icon. A bit sweet and it's redder than the strawberry.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve

" The Kiwi Wildlife Experience ", This is the slogan used by this reserve park. I went to this nice wildlife reserve center with some of my friends this morning. Got up late, I've to "berpuasa" for the whole morning and afternoon. The weather was pretty weird as the rain was indeed unpredictable, it started raining in the city center at about 11.30am. The weather has really spoilt our excitement to experience the native wildlife in Willowbank. We got up the bus no.11, heading to the Hussey Road Willowbank Reserve area. Along the way, I've again explored the other side of the Christchurch region, where, I found the Northlands Shopping Mall and another Countdown which I've known from Isaac last week. The mall is indeed larger than the Riccarton Mall. The typical Pak'n'save and Farmers are in the mall as well. For the second leg of the journey to the wildlife park, the weather was getting better and better with more and more white clouds appearing in the sky. Engulfed with happiness, we'd given up our alternative trip to Botanical Garden, which was proposed by Isaac and me. Finally, we reached Willowbank with a big Kiwi signboard welcoming us. We went to have our tickets ready and waited for a while as Liying was waiting for her breakfast pie. Determined, actually on diet, I didn'y buy any food to cure my empty stomach. The fare for a student to enter the park is $20. We bought a pack of animal food to feed the not-hungry animals. Actually, only a few types of animals which really "want" our food.

The first wildlife to be seen was eel and some lake birds, including the irritating ducks, lingering around our feet, foraging for food. Quite irritating the ducks, as I was afraid of accidentally kicking them or stepping onto them while taking photos. The food we bought was not for the eel and the eel didn't seem to have interest in the smell of the delicious "cereal-like" food. Next, we went through a long path with nothing to see. This path led us to a new area where the livestock was reared. Deers and chickens could be seen enjoying their supplied food (grass). When we went through the path, the smell of our bought animal food immediately attracted a flock of deers and even ducks approaching us. Was the smell of the food so strong enough that it got attracted by our "friends"? Again, ducks were following us and kept surrounding us and "asked" for food. They were s cute. When we left, they were chasing us for our food, but luckily there was an escape door.

Then, we walked past a group of birds (geese and ducks). They were so arrogant that they adopted a nice pose in front of the many cameras. They looked tame at first but when we're taking pictures, they started to feel uncomfortable and followed us along our way. They suddenly became so fierce and starred angrily at us.. Not looking at them, we walked past them quickly..

Next, we got to see ostrich but it's not really interesting to me as I've seen it several times in Malaysia. The next stop was Wallaby territory where I could see lots of wallabies in that area. Wallaby is very similar to a kangaroo but it's smaller. They have their typical "pockets" to contain their babies.

WALLABIES

Next, the monkeys, but this species of monkey is called Black-capped Capuchin. They are black and their fur is a lot more than the typical monkeys found in Malaysia. I suppose it's due to the cold weather. We watched their performances on the rope and some stunts. However, they're far more fiercer than the monkeys I've seen before.

Otters were the next dwellers of the reserve park. They were quite afraid of the humans and they ran when we were near them.

Next were some species of birds displayed. They were common birds found in Malaysia as well:

Ok, after all of these. We headed to the real livestock breeds in "Heritage NZ". The natural setting of countryside was awesome. All the stuff and the breeding places were so authentic and they really projected the image of old New Zealand. Here, we could find some of these typical farmland species of animals:

After that, we headed to the small creatures of reptile, where we saw some lizards and mantis..At last, we entered an enclosed room where the Kiwi Birds were living there. "No Camera allowed". So, couldn't take any photos on them. The room was so dark and creepy and we'd to start our treasure hunt in darkness to hunt for Kiwi birds. These birds are endangered species and they were given the best protection. In fact, there should be 4 Kiwi birds inside the room, but we just managed to find a pair of Kiwis which I think was a couple. We needed to stay silence as noise would chase them away. They're prone to predators and they need special care as they cant fly (no wings). They have a long beak and they're cute and small in size. They're like typical birds without wings. We were a bit disappointed as we couldn't snap any photos. After getting out of the room, there was also a "dwelling" for another type of Kiwi species called North Island Kiwi if I'm not mistaken. Still, we couldn't find them as they like darkness and like to hide when the encounter humans...

That is all for my trip to this special reserve park and below are some nice photos taken along my trip there.. (Some of the photos above were taken by Choon Seng)

Penang.. I'm coming...

Wah, finally, the exams have finished d. After so much of effort being spent before the exam, finally, it's over, Calvin, CS and Isaac are the last to finish the exam (chemistry paper) while I sat for my last Physics paper on Monday. Lots of celebrations have been going on since the finish of the exam for the majority of the students.. Today, there is a celebration and fireworks going on at the New Brighton beach side, I didn't go there as I've addicted to the SimCity game since last night, non-stop, haih.. Should stop now.. The celebration I think is called the Guy Fawkes Night. It's celebrated at the New Brighton Pier. "It's a celebration for the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot of the 5th of November 1605 in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, England." From wikipedia.. There was a firework display at 9.30pm according to the Christchurch City Council..

Back to Penang, Penang is indeed my favourite place. I kept promoting Penang to my friends here more than M'sia, haha..I've been keeping myself updated on the latest development and high-rise or shopping malls in Penang, below are some latest development in Penang, and some nice Penang skyline photos taken by the members of Skyscrapercity.com:

Penang Times Square Mall(opening early next year, probably in January)

Penang 1st Avenue (just beside Prangin Mall - opening end of next year)

Penang Swettenham Pier (redevelopment project - expected to open next month)

Penang D’PIAZZA mall (next to Mayang Mall, opposite The One Cybercity - opening end of this year)

Some Nice Photos adapted from Skyscrapercity.com, really nice skyline of Penang (fantastic!)

13 days to go...
18th of Nov, I'll be going back to Penang by Air Asia.. and before that, 15th of Nov, haha, " holiday-ing (KS quotation) " at Gold Coast, with my best friends Calvin and David Wong.. I heard from a friend of mine (staying at the same floor of my hall of residence) that Gold Coast during summer is indeed hot and he cant stand it..But he's actually a person who likes cold temperature, after telling him that the temperature in M'sia is about 30 to 35degree of Celcius, he's so surprised and shocked and he really cant stand the hot glaring sun.. Is it very hot in Gold Coast in Summer? But, i think, the weather would not be as hot as the weather in M'sia. And of coz, I'm a Penang-kia and a tropical guy, so, I think I can stand it.. But summer at the Gold Coast beaches would see lots of tourists and people sun-bathing..and for sure, lots of "ang-moh" would flock to the beaches and have their skins burnt before going back home.. The first time in my life going to the beaches in an English country, hopefully the trip would be a memorable and awesome one...

Georgetown (SimCity)

This is a better version of Georgetown.. Haha, but I'm not a pro in playing this game, lots of things I need to learn throughout the game, thinking of what should I build, what should I do to address this and that. But, after 2 full days of playing this game, I've successfully built my own Georgetown, Penang, it looks totally different but actually I cant find the type of buildings that still exist in the real Heritage City in the game.. I've been very enthusiastic in playing this game because I like to see beautiful and well-arranged city with awesome skyline.. I've actually created an island with a similar shape as the real Penang island and this is my region played in the game.. I'll continue to extend the city but need some professionals to teach me how, I've a large industrial area with high-density industries, I've built a water treatment plant to overcome the problem of water pollution but still, it doesn't work, why? Do I need to build anything else? Another main problem is how to actually earn so much money like the professional players, my income and expenses always remain about the same and I cant even earn a quarter more than my expenses.. Haih.. Perhaps, i need to search the internet and find the answers..

'Spotless?' Food

I'm currently staying at one of the hall of residences of my university which is RnR Hall, Rochester n Rutherford Hall. Rutherford! Yes. Ernest Rutherford - The 1908 Noble Prize (Chemistry) Laureate who has indeed helped us gain new insight on the model of an atom. Surprisingly, he was born in Nelson, New Zealand and he was a graduate of the University of Canterbury. I reckon this hall is named after him. This hall indeed is the famous on-campus hall which is located just opposite the university and it's the cheapest catered hall. What special about this hall? The residents here are indeed "awesome", parties held almost every night and I think it's the noisiest hall where "Quiet Hours" are not practiced at all. So ridiculous, feeling a bit regret staying here. There're only about 6 non-Kiwis staying here (out of 168 Kiwis). So, no doubt this is the Kiwis territory where they are the dominance!

Ok, what special about the title 'Spotless' Food. This type of food can only be found in this hall. The catering service is managed by an outside company called Spotless. I've no idea why they're called such a weird name. Is it because their food is Spotless or their service is spotless. But, after eating the meals served by the Spotless, I think they should just cancel the "-less". There're too many unfavourable spots found in the food served, not because the food is dirty or unhealthy, it's because the food here "konon-nya" is the best food but actually 50% of the food is terrible, terrible than the Western Food available in Malaysia. However, there're lots of nice food served here also. I've collected heaps of photos of the food served here and ranked them according to a scheme introduced by a nice guy staying here also. Generally, the food here can be classified into 3 types, Human food, Doggy food and Piggy food.. I don't want to mention more on what do I mean by the Doggy Food and Piggy Food. After looking at the photos below, you'll know the answer already.

Human Food(BEST DISHES - The best among the catered Halls):

Doggy Food:

Piggy Food (except for the nice cheese cake):

How's the food? Look Nice? I've been eating these for 8 months since I came here. But, next year, all of us here are going to move out and say goodbye to the 'Nice' meals here.
